CO₂ Production

General information

The CO₂ gas plant is a compact and easy to operate equipment, fully automated and capable of operating on diesel, natural gas or paraffin. This plant performs a controlled combustion process that produces flue gases with a high CO₂ content. Our carbon dioxide plants are diverse and designed to meet the needs of different customers.

The CO₂ Plant 2 is a fully automated liquid CO₂ production system that utilises a low density liquid solution to safely and efficiently create high quality food grade CO₂ gas. The industrial production of liquid CO₂ is ideal for the carbonated beverage industry.

How is commercial ultra-high purity CO₂ produced?

Carbon dioxide (CO₂) is produced on an industrial scale by burning natural gas and separating the carbon and hydrogen atoms. The process involves several stages of purification and liquefaction of food-grade gas. The CO₂ is compressed at a pressure of 16.5 bar and fed into double high-pressure activated carbon columns for efficient purification. The activated carbon removes odors and aldehydes. The towers operate cyclically with switching via a PLC-based control system and valves. After the second tower is activated, the first tower undergoes regeneration with steam generated by an electric steam generator. The regeneration removes impurities from the activated carbon. This cycle repeats indefinitely, providing high quality purified CO₂ gas.

This state-of-the-art equipment provides efficient and reliable production of high quality CO₂ for various industrial needs.

CO₂ production process

During the production process, complete combustion of the fuel takes place under strictly controlled conditions. After cleaning the flue gases with water or soda ash, the CO₂ is absorbed by the solution heated during the combustion process, with the subsequent release of raw CO₂ gas.

The CO₂ is sent to a vertical two-stage dry (oil-free) compressor and purified in a high-pressure apparatus using potassium permanganate purifier. After drying in an automatic two-column molecular sieve dryer, the CO₂ undergoes final purification in an inactivated carbon filter and enters the refrigeration circuit for liquefaction. The continuous CO₂ production process is characterized by high efficiency, reliability and safety. The CO₂ produced meets all international food quality standards and is widely used by leading gas companies as well as in the production of soft drinks and beer in more than 100 countries.

CO₂ production

The carbon dioxide discharge system is based on the principle of extracting CO₂ from the flue gas after combustion. The CO₂ gas contained in the flue gas undergoes a washing process in the DCC tower using sodium liquor, which not only separates the sulphur (CO₂) but also cools and purifies the flue gas.

The liquid carbon dioxide is sent to an absorption tower where a depleted methyl ethanolamine (MEA) solution absorbs CO₂ from the flue gas and then the residual gas is vented to the atmosphere.

The rich solution is fed to the stripping column via a pump and energy conversion system (ECS) for preheating. The CO₂ gas exiting the stripping column is cooled in a purification system to remove impurities, after which it is compressed in an unlubricated two-stage compressor to a pressure of less than 17.5 kg/sqm. The liquid CO₂ is then stored in a long-term storage tank.

Production of liquid CO₂

The low-pressure carbon dioxide collection method is a process where CO₂ is either created at high pressure and then reduced to a low-pressure level or frozen. The resulting CO₂ gas is then injected into special storage containers. These containers are progressively insulated and equipped with cooling devices to ensure that the physical pressure remains at or below 21 bar (304.58 psi) and at -18 °C (-0.4 °F).

Pressure switches are used to monitor the operation of the cooling units. Additional safety mechanisms and digital alarm systems are equipped with means to pressurise the tank and transmit notifications in the event of a cooling system failure.

competitive advantages

№1

Design that is space-saving, simpler and yet still efficient in absorption.

№2

The modular and concise design of the elements enables swift and effortless installation. Moreover, it facilitates the creation of diverse layouts using minimal space.

№3

The design of this system enables effective handling of the water scrubbing process. It efficiently recycles, neutralizes, and dissipates all heat from the water within a single circuit. This innovative system minimizes the volume of water discharged into the drain, resulting in enhanced economic efficiency.
